Station B&W

My first N gauge scenic item constructed, what next?

A Station is a Good Place to Start!

Forgive the pun, but it is a good place to start off my layouts scenic additions. Even when just putting my test sketchy test 'layouts' (loops) it'll be nice to pop on the station so I have some sort of imaginary destination as I whizz my locos round the track! 😆

That said, I still have to paint the thing.

Eventually I will want to fix this station in a permanent position on my final layout design and surround it with proper scenery. But for now it'll be a nice stand alone prop.

How Was It For You?

So how did I enjoy building this little model? Well, actually, I had a really fun time putting this together, despite my somewhat diminished coordination. It just mean I sometimes had to stop what I was doing and count to 100 and let my intermittent wobbliness subsite. Or, just redo some of the faux pas I made do to my wobbly hand...

I'm kinds resigning myself to 'this is the way things are now' and surprised myself by accepting that I cannot be a perfectionist and will have to endure the niggling little flaws in my model making.

As it turned out, I CAN live with less than perfection! Who knew!!! 😏

Now I Have a Destination...What Next?

Well, apart from tackling the painting (again, I'm not looking forward to this part) I am already planning the next major building that will occupy my layout...

Because my interest is in freight and shunting wagons back and forth I need some sort of industry on my layout to justify the freight yard I intend to create. But what kind of industry? A factory, utility, mine or oil refinery? (I'm just riffing here.)

These are all a bit 'dirty' for my liking and don't fit the rather idealised and nostalgic Japan that I want to model (remembering that this whole project is loosely based on the Animi movie 'Spirited Away')...

I want a industry that has a feeling similar to the bath house from the movie. Something uniquely Japanese and traditional but at the same time justified having a modest travel hub near by it.

'And then' (as stories often go) I came across the ideal type of factory for my theme... A Saki distillery!

So... That's my next project - well, kinda - as my freight hub and distillery will require a warehouse to store the goods and then to transfer them onto my wagons. Warehouse first, then distillery.
