Another Forgotten Project Idea Unearthed During Cleaning My Attic.

Mini ‘Mad Max’ Car Making

I think I got into this hobby after I watched the 2015 movie ‘Mad Max Fury Road’. Initially I attempted to make a 1/48 scale road warrior car, but that ended up being a little too ambitious for me (which is so often the way with my modelling ideas)! 😐

Anyway, not long after this I discovered the whole GASLANDS tabletop game and the far more accessible 1/64th scale toy car conversion hobby that is a part of it. Model cars by the likes of Hotwheels and Matchbox make for far more achievable projects for the ‘hobby eclectic’ like myself who like to try out new things instead of just specialising in one subject.

Above: Me just looking over my Hotwheels/Matchbox car collection trying to remind myself what I might have had in mind by way of a project plan for these models.

(Obviously, there is a big advantage to just specialising in one particular hobby subject in that it gives you a change to get very good at it. I just accept that because I tend to flit between ideas that grab my imagination that I will never be any more than mediocre in any given area. BUT I still find the variety of subjects that I get involved in is what I enjoy.)

Dusting Off The Start Of A Collection

It’s great finding stuff I forgot I had, especially when it’s something so cool as a Mad Max themed gaming project…BUT… The downside is that I had done all the project research when I originally bought these cars and now I have forgotten everything I had learned about the game and customising the models. Bummer!

So, I’m kinda going to have to start all over again from scratch, beginning with watching a few videos on YouTube about basic Hotwheels customisation…

This project is a kinda nice one because it’s small and so can be done when I have some spare time (between other things). So I may try and do this as YouTube ‘Shorts’ and release the stage of this job a bit at a time.

It will be actually interesting to see just how long it takes to complete one of these car models. Obviously time would depend on how much work I put into the project, but I am guessing you could finish off one of these in just a few days without breaking a sweat. We shall see.
