My Very First GASLANDS Concept Turned Out To Be Too Ambitious!
[Note: Concept sketches generated using AI using my original models as reference and my descriptive prompts.]
Back To The Drawing Board
My current experimentations with AI apps - like ChatGTP, CoPilot or Gemini - to help me develop the concept sketches for my Gasland creations (seeing that actual drawing is problematic for my wonky hand) led me to dusting off my first project - my 'Capture Truck'.
The origins of this idea goes all the way back to the 1968 movie 'Planet of the Apes' and the iconic scene where the apes were hunting for the 'wild' humans, chasing them down on horseback and catching them using nets...
This was one of my favourite 'post-apocalyptic' movies from when I was a kid and this scene - in particular - stuck with me as it was so powerful. So when it cam to me making vehicles for GASLANDS my very first thought was to try and recreate this idea, but by using a truck instead of a horse.
At first the project went along quite well, and the model making all came together nicely until - that was - I had to devise a method for the actual capturing from the truck.
Initially, I had thought of a simple 'noose on a stick' means of capturing prinsoners, something like what they used in old safari movies like 'HATARI' (1962 with John Wayne and Harder Kruger)...
A Bit More 'Weirdness' Required!
But then I thought I'd like something a bit more 'sci fi' as Gaslands has a futuristic (albeit dystopian) theme to it so I started to think more towards machines that could be used to capture prisoners, like bolas or net throwing catapults and crossbows or grabbing claw arms!!!

The trouble was that - from a sort of technical or mechanical - point of view and not being a sci-fi artist I was having a very hard time visualising just how to make any sort of fantasy weapon that seemed suitable to model for use on my truck. I struggled endlessly with the crossbow and claw idea until - eventually - I abandoned the project as I seemed to have hit a creative wall with this one. 😒
These psudo-medievel mechanisms seemed to be a bit too unwieldy from a modelling point of view and as the Gaslands game already includes electro and plasma weapons that use the dynamo rule I started to lean more towards some sort of TASER based weapon...

I much prefer thiswird future wars weapon although I am not sure if I would model the taser probe cables, even though its possible (using wire). I quite fancy trying to scrach build the tser projector and maybe have a go at painting an glowing electical/plasma effect...
It's how to make the small tazer machine that worries me a bit. 1/62 is quite a small scale so this might be a bit tricky and it's too small for me to attempt to design and 3D print it (and I haven't found any models online like it).
Still, I can but try... Let's have a go at making a test prototype to see if it's fesable or not.
I'll make things a bit easier for myself my trying to modify and already existing Gaslands weapons turret that I have...

To help me turn this into some sort of electrically charges weapon I thought I might combine the MG turret with a 40K plasma weapon. This won’t exactly match the AI concept visual, but as long as I get something that look electrically charged I’ll be happy. Also, the 40k plasma gun I have ordered (see pic below) matches the tutorial for painting the glowing plasma effect in the above video…

If this works we shall progress forward to the next stage in this revived project and start adding some armour and extra details to the capture truck before painting!
Fingers crossed eh? :)
