MAILCALL

Sunday is a great day to relax and just concoct my next evil plans! LOL

This Week's Mail Haul...

I' starting this morning by taking stock of some of the stuff I've been ordering over the past couple of weeks but haven't had time to have a good look at. They've been piling up a bit since my 'pay day spend', coming in in dribs and drabs but everything has arrived now...

1. Panel Lining Washes (Paint & Pens):

Always thinking ahead to my next model (even when the current one isn't finished yet) I want to try some more advanced techniques for decorating my next GUNPLA kit!

In particular, I want to enhance the panel line detail on the model by using paints or markers to highlight the seams between component parts and will be experimenting with some products to achieve this. Time to get out my trusty GUNPLA experimental/test piece again!

Although the GUNPLA hobby has it's own specialist products - like Mr. Hobby's Fine Panel Line Marker pens - I want to try out a more traditional approach using panel washes that I am familiar with from my military modelling. So, I bought a couple of AMMO Panel Line Wash paints to see how they perform up against the specialist marker pen...

2. Plasticard (Styrene) Tools:

I'm really getting interested in Plasticard building and am looking about to find tools that can help me cut our small shapes which I can then use as components in my model making.

One of the tasks that can be a bit tricky is making circles, either by cutting circular holes in a plastic sheet or by cutting out circular pieces from a plastic sheet. I do have my trusty 'circle cutter' tool but that is better for cutting out slightly larger circles from thine plastic sheets.

I needed tools for punching small holes out of thinker sheets of styrene AND for reaming out circular holes in thicker sheets as well.

3. Laser Printer Decal Sheets

And finally, I've always been curious about being able to make my own decal transfers. When I made military models this was mainly so I could produce a specific set of decals to represent a unit markings that were not available commercially.

These days I am more interested in making small additional details that I am no longer confident enough to just paint or draw onto my models. Take my current 1/6 Tape Deck project for example, I will want to add the manufacturers logo as well as some tiny control knob indicator marks, but my wobbly hands just aren't up to doing any fine painting!

Gecko Laser Waterslide Decals

Gecho Paper (UK) offer a range of very reasonably priced transfer paper types and I thought I'd give these a try as they sell them individually rather than in expensive box sets.

I'll be excited to try out making some decals as I have no idea what kind of quality they will be compared to the ones that come with boxed kits nor do I know how fiddly or delicate they will be in comparison!

And that's it. Today's new items, plenty of new model making techniques to explore over the next few days and weeks.

Fingers crossed, eh?
