I Like Trains, And I Like Making Models, So Let's Do Both!
Model Trains...But in Wood!!!
This is kinda a hybrid of two of my favourite hobby themes in one. It's a wooden model kit AND it's of a model train (OK, so it's not N Gauge, but I still think that my model railway followers will get a kick out of it).
Once again, the choice of this model was influenced by my love of the Japanese anime movies of Studio Ghibli, and in particular the movie 'Spirited Away' (my favourite).
The cutesy little vignette of a Japanese train is so evocative of the little rural railways of that country and remind me so much of the railway station that is said to be the basis for the one featured in 'Spirited Away', Shimonada station...
Making A Start
Unlike the last wooden models I have made this one - by Rolife - is a light wood construction. It's almost like balsa wood and the parts have to be handled with some care. Though the printing on the wooden laser cut components is excellent.
I have not counted how many parts there are - and I didn't see a number on the box - but there are a lot!* There are half a dozen sheets of parts, so this one is going to take my a wee while I think (more so because there are some extremely small parts so I will have to concentrate).
*I checked online and there are 223 parts.
I'm recording the build, so I hope to have a video of the process out next week.
