Finally Dusting Off My 'Pile Of Shame'!

My Second Attempt To Re-start My Hobby Season

Here I am again... I'd already pre-empted my 'winter season' project schedule with a post BUT then real life got in the way (again)!

Normally my yearly schedule runs in two main seasons - summer and winter - to coincide with my wife's work schedule. She is a high school teacher so has that nice big six weeks summer holiday off form school work (*not really* - as you would know if you are married to a teacher) which means we get to spend the quality time together that we miss out during the rest of the year. (For those that do not know and think that school teachers 'have it easy' Sharon works evenings and weekends in term time, often until bed time, which means we don't a lot of time together.)

Above: Next up in my series of vintage Matchbox car restorations is this 1959 Ford Anglia. Of particular interest for me is whether I can make a good job of cleaning up the very scratched 'glass' component? I also have to pick a suitable period colour scheme.

Anyhoo, in past years I usually put a lot of my hobby projects on hold or slow down a lot when it gets to May/June but then pick up the hobby stuff once again when it get's to September and Sharon goes back to work... But not this year!!!

This year, just as Sharon was about to return to work, a close relative was diagnosed with cancer and they had to undertake a month long daily treatment of chemotherapy Not good.

But slightly amusing (in a way) is how we treat our family pets these days - believe it or not there was some hesitation on the part of the relative to attend this critical treatment because they were worried about what would happen to their pet spaniel!!!

Above: Despite all my dutiful care of my relatives dog, the mutt didn't seem to happy with my company!!! 😐

It was hard enough to convince them to undertake this brutal treatment without them also being somewhat reticent because they would have to leave their old dog on it's own every day for a month! (I kid you not!)... With everyone else in the family at work guess who 'volunteered' to dog sit every day while the pooch's daddy went to hospital?

Yep... Bang went my 'winter schedule'!

(Note: This is all slightly tongue in cheek - I was more than happy to do my bit under the circumstances. I'm not a *complete* dick!)

Above: A selection of my miniatures on the workbench, with the latest duo of peg soldiers nearly complete and my ongoing Ork skin painting experiment.

So - My September return to my attic man cave had to be pushed back until.. Now! (October.)

And here I am again, dusting off the workbench and sorting out my shelved projects and trying to remember what I had planned way back in May. The past couple of days has just been me finding stuff and planning how to tackle the massive list of 'things to do'.

Above: As part of my current COBI Mirage IIIC brick build I am gathering some images for the project video... I found a snap I took way back in 2007 of this Argentinian Mirage at The Yorkshire Air Museum. Decided to generate a action scene from it using Google Gemini. Just for fun! ;)

In this post you will see a selection of varied projects that I have tried to get on with but what you don't see is the pile of 'Post It' notes stuck to my monitor by way of 'my plan' for the next couple of months as I try to get on top of the enormous project backlog I have... 😆

And so it begins - my winter schedule (at last)! ...Spoiler: Where I'm going with my models in October... --->
