Finally, I Get Model Making Once Again!
Getting Back In The Saddle
Phew! It’s been a while since I either blogged or made a model. But that’s just the way life is going at the moment, there’s been a lot of other stuff taking up my time. (So much for ‘retirement’!) 😆
Anyhoo, I am very slowly getting back to the point where I can restart my next season of projects having done *just* enough tidying up of my attic man cave to free up a bit of workspace…
I’ve missed my man-cave so much, but I had to be ruthless about throwing ‘junk’ out before I could comfortably work in any sort of organised manner. What is it with guys that they have to keep *everything* ‘just in case it might be useful one day’?
Airfix 1/72 ‘Vintage Classic’ Sopwith Pup
…Finally I open the box. It was a bit a bargain buy but this suited me fine as I am still unsure of just how I will managed when it comes to making plastic kits with my crazy hand! However, I am somewhat optimistic as there has been some slow improvement since my strokes which took place nearly four years ago now (wow)!
I still have some problems, particularly with gripping - I am always dropping things- but the general shaking has calmed down, though it does come back when I’m either tired or stressed. Annoyingly, it also seems to make an appearance when I try to concentrate hard. 😖
So we will have to see how things go. But I do know that intricate or precision painting is out of the question (I know as I have tried on several occasions). And my work around for this is to simply ‘paint, repaint and repaint over again and again’ until I get something approaching a neat (acceptable) finish.
Because of this I am not trying to make a perfectly authentic model of this aircraft -just ‘near’ something that looks to be a fair representation of the World War 1 fighter (if you hold close your eyes)! LOL
I’ll be using a fair amount of ‘artistic licence’ and not applying a completely historical paint scheme, but using what paints I have at hand that are ‘close’ to the colours that Airfix suggests. I’ll consider this project a success IF I don’t get everything covered in glue and the final result looks something like the picture on the front of the box! 😂
